These terms are the agreement between you and Nutrio. They're written the same way as everything else here — plainly, and short enough to actually read. Using Nutrio means you agree to them.

The short version

Log what you eat, and Nutrio does the arithmetic. Your journal belongs to you — ask for a copy by email whenever you need one, or delete the lot. Nutrio is a tracking tool, not a clinician, so it shows its math rather than telling you what to do. It's free at the moment, it's young, and now and then something will break. If I ever need to change these terms in a way that matters, the new version goes up here, dated, before it takes effect.

Your account

You need to be at least 16 to use Nutrio — that's who it's built for. (Separately, it won't run its calorie formula for anyone under 18 — skip the calculation and it still offers a general adult average to start from, which isn't a target worked out for you. That's a limit on the arithmetic, not on the account — you can log whatever you like.) One account belongs to one person — keep your sign-in to yourself, and let me know if you think someone else has it. Whatever happens under your account is treated as yours, so it's worth protecting. Sign in with an email address you actually control: it's how you get back in, it's where an export is sent, and it's the only way I can reach you.

You can also use the iOS app without an account. A guest journal works the same way, but only the iPhone that created it can open it, so losing that phone means losing the way back in. Adding Apple, Google or an email address in Settings turns it into a full account and keeps everything in it.

Not medical advice

Nutrio calculates with well-known formulas — Mifflin-St Jeor for your daily baseline, then protein scaled to your body weight and your goal, fat at a quarter of your calories and carbohydrate the remainder. The iOS app will show you every coefficient it used, from Settings → Numbers feel off? That's all it is. It isn't a doctor, a registered dietitian, or a diagnosis, and nothing it displays should be treated as medical advice. If you're pregnant, managing a medical condition, or recovering from an eating disorder, please talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before you change what you eat.

A few limits are built in rather than left to you: Nutrio won't run the formula at all for anyone under 18, won't set a weight-loss target for anyone whose height and weight already put them below a healthy BMI, and it won't cut a weight-loss target below the floors health authorities set for unsupervised dieting — 1,200 kcal if you're female, 1,500 if male, 1,350 if you'd rather not say. If what your body burns at rest already sits under that floor, Nutrio sets no deficit at all rather than one that would take you lower. It also won't imply losing more than about 1% of your body weight a week. You can always log whatever you want — those limits apply to the targets Nutrio calculates, not to your journal.

Your journal is yours

The foods, meals, portions and notes you add stay yours. You give me only the narrow permission I need to run the service — to store your entries, show them back to you, sync them across your devices, and calculate your totals. I don't use your journal to train anything, and I don't sell it. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account; what happens to your data afterwards is set out in the privacy policy.

Two things sit outside that journal permission, and both are described in full in the privacy policy: analytics, which count screens only if you say yes, and crash reports from the iOS app, which are always on and never carry anything you have written. You can ask from Settings in the iOS app for a copy of your journal — your foods, meals, logged activity, recorded balances and baseline history — and I'll email it to the address on your account as CSV files (or, for a guest journal, to an address you confirm with a code), five requests a day, which is more than anyone needs and less than a script would like. Your account details and the assistants you've connected aren't in that file yet; ask and I'll send them too.

Using Nutrio fairly

Please don't try to break the service, get into other people's accounts, scrape it, resell access to it, or use it to harm anyone. Log your own information rather than someone else's. Beyond that, there's not much to say — normal use is what the app makes easy.

Connected assistants

Connecting Nutrio to an assistant — ChatGPT, Claude, or any other MCP-compatible client — is optional, and it only happens when you explicitly authorise it. Once connected, that assistant can read and add entries on your behalf, including deleting them and setting your body parameters — it's one permission, not a menu. To end it, use Disconnect on the connector screen in the iOS app: that withdraws the access itself, where removing Nutrio in the assistant only makes that app forget its key. Left alone a connection renews itself for as long as it keeps being used, and lapses about a year after it stops. Deleting your Nutrio account ends every connection at once. The assistant is not my service: what happens inside a conversation is governed by that company's terms — OpenAI's for ChatGPT, Anthropic's for Claude — and I can't answer for it.

What it costs

Nothing, for now. Nutrio is free while it's early and while the running costs stay inside the budget I've set aside for it, and there's no payment method attached to your account. If that ever changes, it goes up on the site before it applies — and I'll never charge you without asking first.

Availability & changes

Nutrio is young software run on a small budget. I keep it up as best I can, but I can't promise it will always be available, and occasionally a sync will fail or a screen will misbehave. I may add, change or retire features as the app grows. If I make a change to these terms that meaningfully affects you, the new version goes up on this page with a new date before it takes effect — there's no announcement channel in the app yet, so this page is the notice. Continuing to use Nutrio afterwards means you accept the new version.

Ending things

You can stop using Nutrio whenever you like, and you can delete your account and everything in it from Settings in the iOS app — no email, no retention conversation. I may suspend or close an account that breaks the fair-use points above, and I'll tell you why unless I'm legally prevented from doing so. Deleting your account is permanent; the privacy policy explains exactly what gets removed and when.

Where my responsibility ends

Nutrio is provided as it is, without warranties, to the extent the law allows. I'm not responsible for indirect or knock-on losses, or for decisions you make on the strength of a number the app displayed — it calculates estimates from what you tell it, and estimates can be wrong.

None of this limits rights that can't be limited. Your statutory consumer rights stand, and nothing here excludes my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of the EU country Nutrio is run from, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protections of your own country's consumer law — this clause doesn't take those away. Ask at hello@nutrioapp.com if you need that country named for a formal step.
